Подробная информация: | Year of recovery for gilmore sea bass.
Gillmore sea bass has recovered greatly and are now listed as endangered on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website. The state had set a goal of restoring gillmore sea bass populations to the upper 90 per cent of their status by 2018 with a goal of 1/3 of the species' population recovered by 2020.
"All three species had lost more than 50 per cent of their prey during the 10-year period ending May 2012, " said David L. Zalewski, program director for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Southeast Region. "This is the largest recovery seen in Florida waters for any sea bass species and we're looking forward to meeting that goal of recovery for a number of species in the next few years. "
Gillmore sea bass are listed as endangered due to their unique physiological needs for energy and food. They also suffer from a very high mortality rate of up to 80 per cent, including from a single gillfish on average. Gillfish consume about a dozen gillmore sea bass per day, but most of the gillmore sea bass are killed when they bite a gillmore sea bass that has eaten some of their prey. "The only way to stop them from getting you is to kill them, " said Zalewski.
The goal of recovering gillmore sea bass from their current numbers is 25 to 70 per cent. For the entire North Atlantic Region, the fish are currently recovery goal is 50 to 70 per cent recovery goal. "With their success in the past, the recovery of gillmore sea bass has been phenomenal and they are showing great potential to recover from this decline, " said L. D. Smith, chair of the Atlantic Sea Bass and Gillmore Sea Bass Task Force. Smith also serves as Director of Florida Sea Game, in partnership with the Florida Coastal Fishery Commission. "We have no doubt gillmore sea bass will be an important component in the recovery of these species, " Smith said.
Gillmore sea bass are protected under Chapter 11 of the federal Endangered Species Act. The species has been listed as a threatened species on the federal list of endangered species since 1980, along with six other populations of species, for their potential impact on coastal ecosystems, such as habitat fragmentation.
Gillmore sea bass are threatened with extinction by illegal fishing, overfishing, overexploitation for pet food, pollution caused by industrial waste products, habitat degradation and the pollution of their food supply.

China braces for deadly typhoon megiels the Japanese call 'kohai' after landfall of typhoon 'Haiyan' The Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) has warned of "catastrophic typhoon Haiyan" being expected in the East China Sea and it is raising the world's alert level for the storm. Experts at the Japan Meteorological Agency gather data from typhoon Haiyan on August 19, 2012 at a headquarters in Hokkaido, western Japan. While there was little doubt that typhoon Haiyan was going to blow eastward, the exact path of the storm remains unclear.
As with other recent big storms in the Philippines, Haiyan is expected to remain in the upper 90s. It has moved south around 100 miles (160 kilometers) -- far beyond the 90-degree (50-degrees) limit of the current system.
But according to weather forecasters with the Japan Meteorological Agency, the storm is expected to intensify, possibly heading towards Japan.
The storm is projected to linger in the southern Pacific, moving westward toward the west-northeast from the Philippines on Saturday, bringing severe wind and rain, according to the JMA
The typhoon is expected to remain a category 4 storm, a powerful category 2 or 3 storm when it forms in the sea.
The storm system has had at least a 60 percent chance of intensifying, according to data by meteorologists from 10 nations -- the Philippines, Japan, China, Vietnam, China, South Korea, the U. S. , Britain, the Netherlands and Canada.
